Bellroy and Carryology: shaped by the same curiosity

Carryology and Bellroy were developed at the same time, by the same team, around the same kitchen table. While born from the same idea, they entered the world as separate entities.

Carryology launched in 2009 as a media and community platform dedicated to the culture of carry – before ‘carry’ was even a defined concept. It focused on the gear, the knowledge, the people and the stories behind how we move through the world. From the beginning, Carryology drew contributions from a diverse group of people around the globe, building a shared knowledge base exploring and celebrating better ways to carry.

Bellroy followed in 2010 as a product brand – designing and making carry goods, informed by that same curiosity. If Carryology is here to celebrate the full carry universe, Bellroy set out to be one distinctive corner of it.

Bellroy continues to support Carryology because we believe that culture deserves more than commerce alone. That means encouraging ambitious storytelling, meaningful projects, and enabling experiments that few platforms would attempt.

Carryology never existed to promote Bellroy, but instead support all those doing great things within carry. The makers, the adventurers, the obsessives. Helping to push the industry forward – creating feedback loops between brands and their most engaged, exploring product innovations and encouraging better industry practices – was always its MO. This is one of the biggest reasons Carryology has entered a bold new phase of community-building (which you can learn more about here).

Bellroy continues to support Carryology because we believe that culture deserves more than commerce alone. That means encouraging ambitious storytelling, meaningful projects, and enabling experiments that few platforms would attempt.

While Carryology shares the same founders, it is led by its own team, operates with its own direction, and funds its own operations. And that independence is the whole point. While Bellroy happily occupies that one corner of the universe that Carryology is here to nurture.
